A large aerobic, gram-positive or gram-variable bacillus that produces endospores. Colonies appearing on agar medium may be smooth, or may have hair-like outgrowths endospores and appears in chains. It can cause food poisoning in humans and animals. Usually considered nonpathogenic for humans, but may occasionally be an opportunistic pathogen.
